Pay Per Click Advertising – 7 Things You Need To Consider First Before You Spend A Dime.
1. How Well Do You Know Your Product?
Before you begin on your pay per click advertising campaign you need to ask yourself some questions first for example
- Is it a good product to sell?
- Will you get many people looking for refunds?
- Has it got a high converting sales letter?
By getting this right first you’ll save yourself a lot of headache and heartache.
Also you need to do some forward planning for example are you planning to collect e-mail addresses at a squeeze page first and follow up on your prospects.
Or
Are you just going to send them directly to a sales letter. (By collecting e-mail addresses you gain the advantage of following up with them again and again rather than losing them forever).
2. Stay Within Your Budget.
If you use pay per click advertising for driving traffic you really need to determine a daily budget and stay with it. This means keeping within your means and not getting into a bidding war with someone else for a higher position. If you don’t know what you’re doing its very easy to max out your credit cards in very little time and have nothing to show for it.
3. Adjust Your Bids To Keep Your Ads Rank Just Right.
While it’s true that bidding high can get you a top position in your ads and more traffic, having your ad further down isn’t a problem as will still bring in some results. (The first position is good but you can get a lot of tyre kickers clicking on your ad out of curiosity rather than needing to buy something).
It’s important to remember at the very least you should try to maintain your ad on the first page of the search results. You may get some traffic off the second page but it will be a lot less.
4. Watch Your Profit/Costs.
Keep an eye on your profit margin, if you’re spending too much on pay per click ads and not getting enough sales to pay for those ads you need to reconsider your campaign (either by lowering your cost per click or if you own the product increase the price of your product). If you can’t seem to make a difference to your costs it could be that you’re targeting the wrong keywords with a poor conversion or possibly you may need to consider a cheaper form of marketing like article marketing instead.
5. Look For The Right Keywords.
All keywords aren’t created equally and you’ll soon discover that some convert better in sales than others. You can use a keyword tool to build a keyword list but you should also sit down and put yourself in your prospects shoes and think about what they might put into the search engines if they were looking for your product/service.
You need to remember that it will take both time and money to whittle down your list to a smaller profitable list of keywords. If this idea doesn’t appeal to you, you should consider trying another way of getting traffic to your site.
6. Write An Effective Ad Pay Per Click Ad.Like classified ads there are some things you need to remember. You need to write an ad that’s catchy and intriguing but not one that’s misleading (remember you’re paying for every click so make them count). You won’t get it right first time so write a number of ones out and rotate them until you find one that out performs the others (it could be as simple as just changing words around in your ads headline).
7. How Does Your Site Look?
Does your site look professional or does it look like a 5 year old put it together? People who use the internet nowadays are a lot different to the ones who used to surf online a number of years ago.
They may have put up with dodgy websites with slow loading graphics but not now. If it looks bad or takes too long to load you need to sort it out because your website visitors won’t hang around.
Also check out your site in various browsers Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc what may look good in one browser might look hideous in another. Remember first impression count so make yours count.
