Here are a 6 ways you can repurpose your blog posts, some of which are instant with no extra work needed.

1 – Twitter tools – This is a great plugin for all of you that use a Wordpress blog. You simply install the plugin first, fill in your Twitter login details (you need a twitter first) and that’s it. Now every time you post something new to your blog it automatically updates your Twitter account with a Tweet.

2 – Odiogo – This is also another great Wordpress plugin that I use on this blog. First you need to install the plugin and then open up an account with Odiogo. Odiogo then takes the last 10 blog posts from your RSS feed and turns them into audio. Your blog readers then can either listen, download an mp3 of the article or add it to their iTunes software.

3 – If you have any squidoo lens or similar sites (on the same topic as your blog) why not add your RSS feed to them. This way you blog posts travel out further than your blog and it helps keep those other sites up to date with fresh content which the search engines love.

4 – Like (tip 3) why not take the same RSS feed and sign up for an account at ShareAPost.com. ShareAPost is a site where you allow other blog users to use your content on their blogs. Although not all your blog posts may be used, there are times when you article can be found on other blogs which then send free traffic back to your blog.

5 – After a month if you’ve been posting everyday you should have around 30 posts. Why not take those posts and package the together into a small monthly report of content from your blog. You could give this away free to draw traffic to your blog and you could also put either affiliate products or details of your own products inside.

6 – If your blog is on one topic you will find that some blog posts are closely related to each other. Why not take some of your posts and offer them in an e-course as a way to help build your list and possibly make money recommending some products at the same time.

By Barry J McDonald

1 - The most obvious reasons most people use articles is to help build links from high page rank article directories back to their site. So, by submitting articles you help to increase your blog’s page rank and become more search engine friendly for your chosen keywords.

2 - While you may think that because you blog on a regular basis you’re automatically going to be found by your chosen audience, but this isn’t so. Not everyone may read blog’s for various reasons like they haven’t the time or they may just not know how to sign up for your RSS feed.

3 - Like point number 2 there may be other bloggers in your niche who never heard of you. But because of your articles there is a better chance that they’ll come across some of your content and either talk about your article in their blog or link to it for their readers to read.

4 - Generally, blog posts are shorter than articles in length (blog posts can be about 200 words long) but by writing an article you now have more room to further expand on some of the points you’ve made in your blog.

5 - Articles are very easy to share with others. By having your content in article directories you could find your articles being used by other webmasters as content in their sites. Not everyone webmaster uses or like using blogs on their site and they may rather use your full article on a webpage instead.

6 - As we know article marketing is a great way of producing free traffic. So by writing and submitting articles, you now have a two prong approach to building traffic. For example if your blog fell out of favor with the search engines your source of traffic wouldn’t dry up as you now have another source.

You may think that you don’t have the time to do article marketing because you’re too busy writing content for your blog but you why not package some of your blog posts into articles and submit them to the big article directories.

You may be worried about falling foul of Google duplicate content rules but if you make your articles 20% different than your blog posts and you should have no problems. This could be as simple as just changing the first paragraph and adding a resource box to your article.

Generally, the more content you have out there on the internet, the more traffic you’re going to receive so why not try to get your content in front of as many peoples eyes as possible whether that’s in a blog post or an article.

Reader Friendly Content: At all costs keep your content – articles, poems, photographs, videos – reader friendly, that is to say, it should keep more and more readers interested. Your reader must be at the center of you post in a way that your reader must feel that he is gaining something out of reading your post. This is the basic rule in marketing.

Worthwhile: Never let the reader feel that he has been tricked into reading your post or clicking on your blog link. You are thwarting all your long term chances of that reader coming back to your blog, in which case your blog rankings over the long term are in a dicey position.

Check for errors: Making grammatical and spelling errors can be a major put off for many readers. They may not visit your blog again simply because the errors that you make are too high. Always proof read your blog. A small typo here and there can be understood, but make sure you don’t make any major errors.

KISS: Or, Keep It Short and Simple. This is the thumb rule you must follow at all point. Long winding posts tend to get boring. And it may contain nothing that is interesting to the reader. Also no one has the time enough for your blog, no matter how well you write. In fact, your blog will be much more appreciated if you put your thoughts simply and shortly.

Interesting: Make sure that you hold your reader’s attention by making your posts snazzy. They must not be written in a tone that is tiring to read. Write short sentences and keep then crisp and precise. Always hit the point immediately in the course of your article.

Link: Keep linking the blogs you read to yours in order to build a network those people will be in turn encouraged to link you. Remember, linking increases rankings.

Keywords: Using the keywords of your posts frequently increases the search ability of that particular article of yours which in turn leads more people to visit your blog.

Clear Thoughts: Make sure you put your thought clearly before the readers so that it does not become tedious for them to read.

Colloquialism: You can write in a friendly tone. Avoid using too many slang words, but otherwise, if your post demands it, you can be colloquial.

Post Title: A catchy post title or headline is half your business solved. It can glue a reader to your post almost immediately. However, do not put misleading post titles, or you will lose creditability.

So, be consistent with your blog content and watch traffic flowing in to your blog!

If you’re on any of the big internet marketing mailing lists, you’ve probably seen your inbox fill with e-mails about John Reese’s “Traffic Secrets 2” and you may have watched his free videos where he gives out some great ideas on how to get more traffic to your sites/blog.

In his second video he goes on to talk about you need to own more of the of the web. He goes on to say that the sites that are really getting the highest amount of traffic are the ones with the greatest amount of pages, for example Amazon, eBay etc.

If you think about it, you can rarely do a search on Google for any keyword with out one of those big websites not coming up included in the search results.

Know you may be thinking so what’s that got to do with me?

The answer a lot, why not get more of you in front of your prospect with very little extra work?

Yes, you could continue blogging and hope you do well in the search engines for a couple of keywords, but why not cover more bases and get your name out to a bigger audience.

Here are a few ideas you could try…

If you’re a regular blogger why not package your posts into articles and distribute your articles to all the major article directories to attract more traffic and readers, this way you get in front of people who may have never heard of you before. You might like to think that everyone in you niche knows about you but there could be a lot of people you mightn’t know you exist until they read an article of yours.

Why not turn some blog posts into videos and put them on YouTube (for the same reasons as tips 1).

Why not turn your blog post into an audio and give them away to your website visitors in exchange for their e-mail address.

Why not package your most popular posts into a free report and give it away (like a most popular posts of the month report). If you think about it, you could have 12 free reports in a year all circulating with the best of your posts and all carrying your blogs details.

Why not create a squidoo lens with your most popular blog posts. If you don’t know what a squidoo lens is visit www.Squidoo.com and have a look around. Don’t be put off by the name “lens” it’s just a very simple website that anyone can put to together, you just point and click and that’s it.

One of the options of a squidoo lens is that they allow you to add an RSS feed to your lens, so why not add your blogs?

Squidoo lens are very search engine friendly, so you may surprise yourself by creating a popular squidoo lens and get a lot of free traffic from Google to it. This way a lot of more people come into contact with you and may start reading your blog from the RSS feed on your lens.

Also these lens may increase in page rank over time, and you may have some strong backlinks pointing back to your blog, making your blog even more search engine friendly.

Bottom line: While these ideas may seem like a lot of extra work (you could out source them if you’re stuck for time) they will allow you to cover all traffic bases in case your blog should ever fall out of favour with the search engines.

<!– /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:”"; margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:”Times New Roman”; mso-fareast-font-family:”Times New Roman”;} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:purple; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} @page Section1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 90.0pt 72.0pt 90.0pt; mso-header-margin:36.0pt; mso-footer-margin:36.0pt; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} –> <!--[if gte mso 10]>

If your blog is really hungry for links, you need to feed it. Fortunately, blogs aren’t very picky eaters. All you need to do is spend some quality time thinking about creative ways to draw links to your blog. You don’t need to be a rich man to cook up these succulent link building ideas. All you need is to free your mind from its prison and open yourself to a multitude of fun strategies that will draw links to your website.

Why are links so important? Well, for one thing, the amount of you links you have will partially determine your search engine ranking. If you have a lot of links, especially inbound links, Google will rank you higher. In addition, links drive a huge amount of web traffic to websites. In fact, links are the largest way that websites receive traffic that they wouldn’t otherwise receive. Inbound links are particularly useful. An inbound link is when an external website links to your website without your reciprocation. Google considers these links to be very powerful, and they are often determinants in search engine ranking. Most search engine optimization companies stress the importance of links when they are advising clients.

So if you don’t feed your blog links, it will starve and die, just like a living being will starve if it doesn’t have food. You can either do link exchange, or go for inbound links. Remember that search engines will highly rank inbound links, and while they will value link exchanges, inbound links will always elevate your status with the search engine. However, it is also very important that the links are relevant to the content of your blog. That means that the link contains similar or pertinent information to that which is posted on your blog. Search engines give significant points to links that are relevant, whereas they don’t really pay much attention to irrelevant links.

In other words, you have to whatever you can to secure inbound links. This means you have to be profoundly creative, because it’s not easy to get these links. But take a look at these three steps which can help you gain inbound links.

The Maverick Strategy

The Maverick strategy is a very effective way to gain inbound links. Here’s what you do. Get online to one of your favorite blogs and read up on the conversation that is occurring there. Surely one of those pompous bloggers who thinks he knows it all is making a comment about some current event. In fact, since people are sheep, there’s probably a whole boatload of morons who are following the opinion of one person. Here’s what you do.

Carefully research and study the subject matter. Ideally, it should be a subject you are already familiar with. Then write a scathing, but respectful diatribe against the opinion of the status quo. This way, you will set yourself apart from the crowd. What will result is an influx of inbound links. People take notice when someone stands for something different. You really should believe in what you say, because you should stand for your principles. That’s why this strategy works when you find a blog that you disagree with. “Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights” –Bob Marley.

The Maven Strategy

If you’re an expert in a certain field or sector, you can share your knowledge and become the local blogosphere expert. You must possess intricate knowledge about the subject matter so that you are the most knowledgeable person writing about the subject. If you truly know as much as you think and you write about it, people will flock to your site. This is another great way to get inbound links.

The Comedy Strategy

One thing that the Internet is lacking is quality humor. If you’ve got a good sense of humor and you know how to make people laugh, you will surely gain a wealth of admirers. Just be yourself and write what you feel. Honesty makes people laugh, especially uncomfortable honesty. This is probably one of the best ways you can attract visitors to your web site. Remember, everyone loves to laugh.

You can employ any number of these strategies to increase web traffic and feed your blog. You will feed it a great, whole meal if you use these strategies, and you’ll enjoy a huge amount of visitors.

WordPress has never been easier to install than the latest version. In this article, I will describe how to install WordPress 2.5.

INSTALL WORDPRESS IN FIVE EASY STEPS

(1) Download WordPress

The first installation step is to Download WordPress from http://wordpress.org/download/. I created a directory on my PC called wordpress in which to collect the files and images I will use for my WordPress installation and customization. Once the download competed, I saved the .zip file.

(2) Unzip WordPress

After saving the file, I opened it with the zip/unzip program I use, and selected all of the files. Since I will be testing and modifying Wordpress locally to begin with, I extracted the files to the root directory of the Apache server I use for my PC test bed.

If I were going to install WordPress for real on a live web site, I would have used an FTP client to upload the .zip file to the desired directory at my hosting service and unziped the file there. Firefox has a terrific and free FTP client, FireFTP, that can be used for the upload.

(3) Create the Database

At this point, the WordPress database needs to be created. WordPress requires a database to store the site content and other information. I use MySQL for my database server both on my PC test bed and on my live sites. I use phpMyAdmin as an interface to MySQL.

Creating the database is really simple using phpMyAdmin. I simply start phpMyAdmin, enter the database name, and hit the Create button. WordPress will create the tables it needs in the database.

(4) Create wp config.php

WordPress needs to know how to access the database once it has been created. That s what the wp config.php file is for. WordPress includes a file called wp config sample.php. This file needs to be modified with the database access information and renamed to wp config.php.

Open the config file with any text editor. The critical entries are DBNAME, DBUSER, DBPASSWORD, and DBHOST.

As an enhanced security measure, I obtained a unique SECRET_KEY and pasted this into the file. I then saved the edited file as wp config.php. The text below shows the code I changed:

// ** MySQL settings ** //

define( DB_NAME , wordpress ); // The name of the database

define( DB_USER , rtivel ); // Your MySQL username

define( DB_PASSWORD , MyPassword ); // …and password

define( DB_HOST , localhost ); // 99 chance you won t need to change this value

// Change SECRET_KEY to a unique phrase. You won t have to remember it later,

// so make it long and complicated. You can visit http://api.wordpress.org/secret key/1.0/

// to get a secret key generated for you, or just make something up.

define( SECRET_KEY , diq`~@|CH6)l@u>x;hA>1ew1maZ/)ToE!y }}ZYAI!=V^L()eooB!0V+k8LJa!Eh ); // Change this to a unique phrase.

(5) Run the WordPress Installer

After completing the edit of the wp config.php file, I started the installation script by entering this URL to my Apache server into my browser:

localhost/wordpress/wp admin/install.php

For a live site, the URL might be something like this:

yourdomain.com/wordpress/wp admin/install.php

The first installation screen asks for the blog name and contact email address.

The next screen announces a successful installation and provides a username and password for the administrator. Be sure to save this password!

The installation is now complete. I can now log into Wordpress and begin managing the blog, customizing the theme, or adding content.

Or, I can click the link at the top of the log in screen and go to the blog s home page.

If you don t manually create a wp config.php file, WordPress will prompt for the information it needs and try to complete the installation.

That s it! WordPress should now be installed.

Yours for a more successful blog,

Royce Tivel

Millions of bloggers recommend WordPress over other blogging platforms and for good reason. WordPress is not only user friendly and easy to set up, even for those who are not very tech savvy, but it offers a lot of plug-ins that can maximize the effectiveness of your blog. While WordPress is free to use, they also offer a paid upgrade option so this might be something to take into consideration, especially if you want to include ads, such as Google AdSense ads on your blog.

If you’re interested in setting up a blog rather quickly though, you can’t go wrong with WordPress. They also have a wide assortment of themes, so you won’t have to worry about your blog looking like everyone else’s. Some of the WordPress themes will let you include an image or photo in the header bar so your blog is easy to personalise. You can also categorise your posts, which is helpful if you write about different subjects within your niche. You don’t want your visitors to have to sift through a month’s worth of blog post to find the one article they are searching for so this is a big plus. You’ll also have a lot of fun with all the widgets WordPress offers. Some of these you can change or personalise and some you can’t.

TypePad is another increasingly popular blogging platform. There is a subscription fee to use TypePad but they do offer a free trial so you can try it out first. Some people feel that TypePad is easier to use than WordPress if you’re not very tech savvy, especially because the widgets are easier to use. TypePad may be the right blogging platform for you if you are interested in your blog showing up in the search engines and if you are an Internet marketer, this is most likely the case.

So what if you just can’t afford to pay for blog hosting right now? If that’s the case, then you should still consider blogging, both for the experience and the exposure. Just because you pay for blog hosting doesn’t necessarily mean your blog will be discovered by customers hungry to spend their money on your product or service and if you don’t pay for blog hosting, it doesn’t mean your blog won’t do you any good either.

Whichever blogging platform you choose, remember to post interesting, relevant content and update often, at least once a day if possible. As you grow your business, you will develop a clientele that will most likely find your blog interesting and will start to look at it as a relevant source of information so take it very seriously, whether or not you pay for it.

Regards,

Here’s the second part of my posts on my favorite Wordpress plugins and why I like them…

MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer – This is a great plugin to stop your wordpress blog becoming seen as a spam blog.

In its standard form your wordpress blog sends a ping out every time you make a post or even an alteration to your posts (even if it’s just a simple spelling correction) the problem is all those extra pings can cause big problems for your blog.

So to avoid the unnecessary pings problems this plugin only pings the services one time when you post something new and that’s it.

MaxBlogPress Unblockable Popup – A great plugin for creating a unblockable pop up for your blog. Who says you can’t blog and build a list at the same time.

There’s some great options you can use this plugin like the “black out” feature, where the whole screen is blackened out leaving only your pop up in view which makes your pop up even harder to avoid.

WassUp – No, not the Budweiser catch phrase, but just as cool. This fantastic plugin records everything in that happens in your blog for example, what country your readers are coming from, what posts they’re reading, what keywords your readers are using to find your blog in the search engines and much more.

Once you start using this plugin you’ll wonder how you ever got on without it.

What Would Seth Godin Do – This plugin places a little message at the bottom of all your posts. You can use it anyway you like. From banner ads to a reminder that your reader should subscribe to your RSS feed.

WP-Spam – There is nothing more irritating than trawling through a load of spam comments on your blog. Why idiots do this is beyond me?

But, anyway back to the plugin. Get this plugin up and running and you can say goodbye to all that those time wasters.

Odigo Listen Button – Fantastic plugin to turn your blog into a podcast. After you fill in all your details with Odigo, they visit your blog (read the last 10 posts on your RSS feed) and then turns those post into audio.

Now your readers can simply download your blog posts as Mp3 files to listen to on an Mp3 player or you can download them yourself and use them later on as an audio product which you could sell or give away to build your list.

Popularity Contest – This plugin (although it doesn’t work on the newest version of wordpress) is great for showing your blog readers your most popular posts.

A new reader coming to your blog might get lost wondering what to read, but this plugin solves the problem for them by giving the most popular posts.
